Booking & Access
Before You Book
Do I need a referral from a GP or specialist?
No referral is required. You can book directly with Dr. Umer through the online booking system or by contacting the clinic on WhatsApp. If you have previous imaging, clinic letters, or discharge summaries, please bring them — they are helpful context but not mandatory for the initial assessment.
Can I consult remotely, or does the assessment require an in-person visit?
The clinical intake questionnaire is completed online before your visit. The physical examination must be conducted in person — clinical assessment of pain cannot be performed remotely with accuracy. Telehealth follow-up appointments are available after the initial in-person assessment has been completed.
Can patients from outside Karachi attend a ROOT METHOD assessment?
Yes. Many ROOT METHOD patients travel specifically for their assessment. Because the first appointment is comprehensive, a significant amount of clinical work is completed in a single session. For patients who cannot attend follow-up appointments in person, remote review consultations can be arranged once the initial assessment and protocol have been established.
The Process
What to Expect
How long does the initial assessment take?
The initial consultation with Dr. Umer typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. This includes a structured review of your clinical intake form, a full physical and neurological examination, and a detailed discussion of findings and proposed treatment. We do not rush first appointments — the quality of the assessment is the foundation of everything that follows.
Do I need to bring imaging reports or prior medical records?
Yes — please bring any MRI, X-ray, CT, or ultrasound reports you have, along with relevant clinic letters or discharge summaries. Prior records are valuable context, but they do not replace the ROOT METHOD examination. Dr. Umer will reinterpret all imaging within the context of your current clinical presentation, rather than accepting prior conclusions at face value.
How many sessions will I need before I notice results?
This depends entirely on the nature and duration of your condition. Many patients notice meaningful change within two to four weeks of beginning a ROOT METHOD protocol. Some experience significant relief following the first targeted intervention. Patients with longer-standing or more complex presentations typically require a longer treatment course. Clear benchmarks are set at the outset so that progress — or the need to adjust the protocol — can be measured objectively rather than estimated. Dr. Umer will give you an honest timeline estimate after the initial assessment.
Understanding ROOT METHOD
How It Is Different
What makes ROOT METHOD different from regular physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is a treatment modality — it applies specific physical interventions to improve movement and reduce pain. ROOT METHOD is a clinical framework — a structured process for identifying the origin of pain before any treatment is selected. Dr. Umer may recommend physiotherapy as part of a ROOT METHOD protocol, but the methodology itself is diagnostic and investigative in its primary purpose. The intervention follows the investigation; it never precedes it.
How is ROOT METHOD different from a standard pain management clinic?
Most pain management clinics focus on reducing the intensity of pain through medication, injections, or neuromodulation. These are valid interventions — but they are not investigative. ROOT METHOD is structured around understanding why you are in pain before deciding how to treat it. The outcome sought is resolution at source, not indefinite management of symptoms.
Conditions & Scope
What ROOT METHOD Treats
What conditions does ROOT METHOD address?
ROOT METHOD is best suited to musculoskeletal and neurological pain conditions — including back and spine pain, neck and cervical disorders, sciatica and radicular pain, joint pain, tendon disorders, and complex chronic pain syndromes that have not responded to standard treatment. We treat conditions across the spine, upper limb, and lower limb. A full list of conditions is available on the Conditions page.
What conditions does ROOT METHOD not treat?
ROOT METHOD specialises in musculoskeletal, neurological, and chronic pain conditions. We do not treat acute trauma requiring emergency care, oncological pain, or paediatric conditions. If your condition falls outside our clinical scope, you will be told clearly and directed to the appropriate specialist or service.
I have already tried physiotherapy and injections. Can ROOT METHOD still help?
Yes. ROOT METHOD is specifically designed for patients who have been through conventional treatment pathways without resolution. Prior treatment does not exclude you — in fact, a detailed history of what has and has not worked is clinically valuable. If anything, it helps Dr. Umer build a clearer picture of what the underlying cause may be.
