The Methodology

A Systematic Approach to Understanding Pain

Most pain clinics treat what they see. ROOT METHOD investigates why it exists. Every patient undergoes a structured, multi-layer clinical assessment designed to trace pain back to its biological, mechanical, and neurological origin.

Root Cause Focus

We never mask pain with generic medication. Every case begins with identifying the underlying biological or structural cause driving your symptoms.

Structured Assessment

Each patient completes a comprehensive 8-step clinical intake — a thorough examination of pain history, function, and medical background. No guessing.

Evidence-Based Protocol

Treatment is never generic. Each protocol is designed specifically for your diagnosis, your physiology, and your personal recovery goals.

Why ROOT METHOD

Most Pain Treatment Stops at the Symptom

Conventional pain management treats what hurts — not why it hurts. Anti-inflammatories, physiotherapy, and injections provide temporary relief without resolving the source. Patients return. The cycle repeats.

ROOT METHOD is different. Dr. Umer developed this clinical framework after years of seeing patients cycle through treatments without resolution. The methodology systematically traces each symptom back to its origin — whether mechanical, neurological, inflammatory, or postural.

The Process

How ROOT METHOD Works

A structured six-stage clinical journey — from your first inquiry to long-term resolution.

  1. Step One

    Comprehensive Intake

You complete a detailed 8-step clinical questionnaire covering your pain history, onset, severity, function, and treatment background. This becomes the foundation of your entire assessment.

  2. Step Two

    Clinical Examination

Dr. Umer conducts a structured physical and neurological examination, mapping pain patterns, identifying movement restrictions, and assessing referred pain pathways.

  3. Step Three

    Root Cause Analysis

Using the ROOT Clinical Intelligence framework, Dr. Umer identifies the primary biological or structural origin of your pain — not just where you feel it, but why it exists.

  4. Step Four

    Protocol Design

A personalised treatment plan is developed — specific to your diagnosis, your physiology, and your goals. Every decision is documented and explained to you in full.

  5. Step Five

    Treatment & Intervention

Evidence-based interventions are delivered — which may include targeted injections, manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises, or clinical management depending on your condition.

  6. Step Six

    Review & Long-Term Management

Progress is tracked using the ROOT Response Score. Protocols are adjusted based on outcomes. The goal is permanent resolution — not an indefinite treatment cycle.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes ROOT METHOD different from regular physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy typically addresses muscle function, mobility, and symptom management. ROOT METHOD begins one step earlier — with a systematic investigation into what is causing the dysfunction in the first place. The treatment that follows is therefore targeted at the actual cause, not the symptomatic presentation.

How long does the initial assessment take?

The initial consultation with Dr. Umer typically takes 60 to 90 minutes. This includes review of your clinical intake, physical examination, and a full discussion of findings and proposed treatment. We do not rush first appointments.

Do I need a referral from a GP or specialist?

No referral is required. You can book directly with Dr. Umer. If you have previous imaging, reports, or medical records, please bring them — they are helpful but not mandatory for the initial assessment.

How many sessions will I need before seeing results?

This depends entirely on your diagnosis and condition severity. Some patients experience significant relief following the first targeted intervention. Others with complex or chronic conditions require a structured multi-session protocol. Dr. Umer will give you an honest timeline estimate after the initial assessment.

What conditions does ROOT METHOD not treat?

ROOT METHOD specialises in musculoskeletal, neurological, and chronic pain conditions. We do not treat acute trauma requiring emergency care, oncological pain, or paediatric conditions. If your condition falls outside our scope, we will refer you appropriately.

Can I consult remotely or does it require an in-person visit?

The clinical intake questionnaire is completed online before your visit. The physical examination must be conducted in person — clinical assessment of pain cannot be performed remotely with accuracy. Telehealth follow-up appointments are available after the initial in-person assessment.
